Alan Phillips Racing kicks off the 2025 season on the podium

It all begins with an idea.

Alan Phillips Racing (APR) kicked off the 2025 season with Alan Phillips landing on the podium in all three of his races, including Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) premier class, Bison Formula 1 Expert where he raced a hard fought battle against JC Camacho, finishing second overall. Throughout the weekend, Phillips lead 11 out of 15 total laps and the total cumulative time difference in all three races between the top two riders was 0.95 seconds.

The weekend began on Friday, February 14th with a beautiful day of practice with lower temperatures but clear skies. Phillips rode his Yamaha YZF-R1 throughout the day getting it dialed in for an action packed weekend of racing. During practice he rode the fast lap for every session and achieved a time of 1:37:10 determined to continue the downward trend for his time.

Saturday morning came around and there was morning precipitation in the forecast but that did not deter Alan. He was focused on riding his best race and putting his metal stallion on the box to start the season off right. The RaceworX A Superstock Expert race came and Phillips put his head down and locked Camacho in his sights. Alan and JC fought until the finish with Alan coming in second concluding his racing for the day. Alan went back to his pit to start game planning on how to approach Sunday’s races.

Sunday morning brought chilly temperatures making Sunday morning practice a challenge to really get a true feel for the bike. In his first race he got a strong start leading the race with JC on his tail. He fought hard to stay out in front, starting to pull ahead mid-race. Camacho turned up the heat on the last couple laps and passed Alan on the last corner resulting in a second place finish for Phillips. Alan came back to the pits and relayed to his mechanic that he was having electrical issues that were disabling his quick shifter throughout the race and they got to work diagnosing the problem. During the lunch break between races they dug into the bike to try to fix the problem. They got the bike put back together just in time for his third and final race to be called to the grid.

This was the premier class of the day - Bison Formula 1 Expert. Phillips pulled up to the grid and put his game face on. 3…2…1…lights out and they have a race! Alan got a fantastic start off the grid and led the race coming out of turn one. The race progresses and Phillips and Camacho are all over each other. The race has been reduced down to 5 laps due to timing for the day and they have to make their moves early and smoothly. Halfway through JC gets around Alan but he doesn’t let him get far and keeps him in his sights. Going into the turn at the end of the back straight they catch up to lapped traffic and they both get past with little interference and coming onto the front straight they see the white flag, one lap to go. Phillips doesn’t let Camacho out of his sight and stays close throughout the lap, trying to get the perfect drive coming out of the last corner. Side-by-side going into the final turn and onto the front straight, Camacho pulled it off just ahead. Phillips ended the weekend with another second place finish.

Now it is time to refocus and work out the kinks for the next race at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit (HMRC) on March 22nd and 23rd for Round 2 of the CMRA 2025 season.
